Marshall Browning Rehab to Hold 14th Annual 5K Run/Walk


Du Quoin, Illinois - September 5, 2014 - Join Marshall Browning Hospital's Rehabilitation Center in Du Quoin for their 14th Annual 5K Run/Walk at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 18. The event is held each year to promote walking and exercise as a key role in the recovery of most injuries and illness.

"We are encouraging people to participate to improve their health and have a good time doing it," said Heather Richelman, Director of Rehab at Marshall Browning Hospital. "This run/walk is a fun way to get active and enjoy the outdoors."

Packet pickup and race day registration will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the labor pavilion and the race will begin at 9:00 a.m. The event is held each year in honor of National Physical Therapy Month. Participants for the event come each year from all across the area with seasoned and first-time runners and walkers participating.

Awards will be given to the overall male and female runners and to the top two finishers in each age division of the run and competitive walk. The age divisions for the run: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & over. Age divisions for the competitive walk: 18 and under, 19-29, 30-45, 46-59, 60-74 and 75 and over. All participants will receive a T-shirt, snacks and drinks with a chance to win door prizes.
Cost for the event is $12 for the 5K Run, $12 for the 5K Competitive Walk, and $8 for the 5K Fun Walk for participants who register before October 3rd. After October 3rd, the cost will be $15 for the 5K Run, $15 for the 5K Competitive Walk, and $10 for the Fun Walk.

Services offered at Marshall Browning Hospital's Rehab Center include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Athletic Training, Hippotherapy, Aquatic Therapy, Lymphedema Therapy, Vestibular Therapy, Hand Therapy, and Pediatrics.

Marshall Browning Rehab is the only facility in southern Illinois to have certified instructors to offer the highly acclaimed Sportsmetrics™ Training Program, effective in reducing the risk of knee injuries in female athletes.
The department also offers a free Sports Injury Clinic on Saturday mornings for area athletes. The injury clinic is offered every Saturday (August 30 - October 25) from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. at Marshall Browning Hospital. Screenings are performed by Tim Davis, Certified Athletic Trainer/PTA from Marshall Browning Rehab.
