MBH Golf Classic Huge Success

Du Quoin, Illinois - Marshall Browning Hospital's 7th Annual Charity Golf Classic, held on Thursday, June 12, was a huge success for the patients served by Marshall Browning Hospital.

The scramble was held at Red Hawk Golf Club with 92 golfers in attendance. This year's event was held in memory of the late Bill Wilson. Mr. Wilson was an outstanding supporter of the hospital's annual golf scramble each year, having been on the winning team twice including in 2007. Mr. Wilson lost his battle with cancer on May 23, 2008. Hospital officials wore "Wilson green" ribbons and each golf cart was decorated with a green ribbon in his honor. Following lunch, William Huff, CEO, spoke of Bill Wilson and what he meant to the event, to the community, and to the many fellow golfers who loved him. A moment of silence was then held in honor of Mr. Wilson prior to tee-off. The scramble raised over $11,000 and will be applied toward new equipment for the Gastroenterology Department, which will assist in the early detection of GI cancers.

The winning team included Greg Wilson, Chuck Genesio, Jerry Rainwater, and Charlie Rainwater with a score of 56.

Prizes were awarded to the 7th place team sponsored by the Du Quoin Evening Call and included Doug Daniels, Justin Malinee, JR Alongi and Jason Furlow. Prizes were also awarded to the 13th place team sponsored by American Red Cross and Baldwin House Agency and included Gary Allison, Lee Young, John Schubert and William Huff. The 'funnest foursome' was awarded to a team consisting of Larry Van Vooren, Kendra Campanella, Andy Gualdoni, and Tim Huels.

Winner of the Longest Drive on hole #13 went to Greg Wilson, Closest to the Pin on hole #3 was Jerry Rainwater, and Longest Putt on hole #8 was awarded to Dave Herkert of OnMedia.

Winner of an electric guitar donated by Main Street Medical was Harold Rice. Winner of the 50/50 was Rob Cash who played on the OnMedia team. Mr. Cash donated his winnings back to the hospital. Winner of the Skins game was split between team of Greg Wilson, Chuck Genesio, Charlie Rainwater and Jerry Rainwater and the EdwardJones team of Andrew Darnell, Nathan Meagher, Brad Ragain, and Rich Yunkus.

Vogler Motor Company of Carbondale generously sponsored Hole-In-One prizes including a new 2008 Ford Focus, autographed print collection from golf artist Marci Rule, 3 Day/2 Night Vacation package to The Peabody in Memphis, and 3 Day/2 Night Vacation package to Treetops Resort. There were no winners of the Hole-In-One contests.

Marshall Browning Hospital would like to thank those who supported the 7th Annual Charity Golf Classic by playing on a team and the area businesses for their generous support of hole sponsorships and door prizes. A special thanks is given to Sam Macaluso for his outstanding efforts that contribute greatly to the success of this event.
