Mitchelle Calderon, Physical Therapist at Marshall Browning Hospital, was awarded a specialist certification in Geriatrics by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) during the Opening Ceremony of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Combined Sections meeting held on February 8, 2012 in the Hilton, Chicago.  She was among the 1,178 new physical therapist specialists from across the United States to be certified.

Marshall Browning Hospital has New Geriatrics Certified Specialist


Du Quoin, Illinois - March 7, 2012 - Mitchelle Calderon, Physical Therapist at Marshall Browning Hospital, was awarded a specialist certification in Geriatrics by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) during the Opening Ceremony of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Combined Sections meeting held on February 8, 2012 in the Hilton, Chicago. She was among the 1,178 new physical therapist specialists from across the United States to be certified.

Specialists in geriatrics provide expert clinical decision-making skills in designing and applying effective exercise prescription, balance and gait retraining, and falls prevention program to aging adults (60 years and older). In addition to direct patient care, they serve the role of advocate, consultant, educator and supervisor in works related to the aging population.To obtain a board certification, candidates must submit evidence of required clinical practice in a specialty area. In addition, candidates must successfully complete a rigorous written examination, demonstrating specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency in a specialty area of physical therapist practice.

Calderon has worked as a Physical Therapist at Marshall Browning Hospital's Physical Rehabilitation Center since 2005. She is also a Certified Exercise Expert in Aging Adults.

Marshall Browning Rehabilitation Center is located on the hospital campus.
