MBH Awards First Four-Year Healthcare Scholarship

Du Quoin, Illinois - May 26, 2009 - Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin awarded their first $1,000 four-year health career scholarship to Chelsey Varner of Du Quoin. The scholarship will be directed through the District #300 Educational Foundation where it will be eligible for the matching program at area junior colleges and universities. Chelsey plans to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Radiology Technology. She will attend John A. Logan College in the fall and later transfer to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Chelsey is the daughter of Mike Varner and Susan Varner of Du Quoin. Chelsey was formally recognized at the District #300 Foundation Dinner on May 2. The Hospital Scholarship Committee hosted a luncheon in honor of Chelsey on May 26 at the hospital. The Scholarship Committee is comprised of hospital board members Richard Haines, Kathy West, Don Hoffman, Mark Maclin and William Huff, CEO.

Within four years, the hospital will be paying out $4,000 each year to local students who are committed to furthering their education and working toward a healthcare career. It is one of the many ways Marshall Browning Hospital is giving back to the community.
