Marshall Browning Hospital Welcomes Two Additional Gastroenterologists from SSM Saint Louis University Hospital


Du Quoin, Illinois – August 10, 2023 – Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin has expanded its network of expert physicians as it welcomes two additional gastroenterologists from SSM Saint Louis University Hospital. Wissam Kiwan, MD and Kamran Qureshi, MD will begin seeing patients in the hospital’s specialty clinic in September.

Dr. Kiwan is board certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He treats a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions and offers medical and endoscopic management of biliary and pancreatic diseases, gastric disorders, small bowel and large bowel diseases, and esophageal conditions.

Dr. Qureshi is board certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He treats patients for a range of liver diseases, including autoimmune liver disease, liver cancer, cirrhosis, and infectious hepatitis. He performs screening endoscopic procedures and manages liver transplantations.

Dr. Kiwan and Dr. Qureshi will join gastroenterologists Dr. Alex Befeler, Dr. Christine Hachem and Dr. Hany Elbeshbeshy who also treat patients at Marshall Browning Hospital. All five have surgical privileges and will perform diagnostic procedures such as colonoscopies, endoscopies, and liver biopsies.

“We are excited to bring two additional experienced gastroenterologists from SSM Saint Louis University Hospital to our specialty clinic service. We will now have five experts in the field of gastroenterology coming to Du Quoin so that our patients do not have to travel to St. Louis,” said Dan Eaves, CEO.

Both Dr. Kiwan and Dr. Qureshi are associate professors in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, at Saint Louis University School of Medicine.

Dr. Kiwan received his medical degree from the Damascus University Faculty of Medicine. He completed his residency and fellowships at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University and the University of Southern California.

Dr. Qureshi received his medical degree from King Edward Medical University. He completed his residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and fellowships at Florida Hospital Orlando and Temple University in Philadelphia.

Gastroenterologists treat disorders of the digestive system and disorders such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, abdominal pain, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), diverticulosis, diarrhea, lactose intolerance, constipation, peptic ulcers, celiac disease, motility disorders, and all forms of liver diseases including hepatitis.
