Marshall Browning Hospital to Host Community HealthCheck

Du Quoin, Illinois - March 16, 2018 - It's all about the numbers and learning yours at Marshall Browning Hospital's Community HealthCheck is an excellent start. The HealthCheck event will be held at Marshall Browning Hospital, 900 North Washington Street in Du Quoin, on Tuesday, May 1 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Community HealthCheck will feature lab screenings at a reduced rate of just $40 (cash only). All lab testing must be done prior to the HealthCheck event from April 14-21. During this time, labs will be drawn in the Specialty Services area on the first floor of the hospital. Lab testing hours will be Monday - Friday (April 16-20) from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and on Saturdays, April 14 and April 21 from 7:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Results from the lab testing will be available at the HealthCheck event on May 1 with medical providers available to meet with individuals to explain their results. Lab testing will include a Complete Metabolic Profile, Complete Blood Count, Lipid Profile (Cholesterol, Triglycerides, LDL, HDL), Thyroid Function Screen (TSH), Diabetic Screen (HA1C), Vitamin D, and Prostate Cancer Screen (PSA) for men. It is recommended that individuals do not eat or drink for eight hours prior to testing. Appointments are not necessary.

"The overall health of the community is really important," said Pam Logan, Director of Marketing/Patient Relations. "The hospital is focused on serving the needs of the community and this is a preventive screening that we can offer that shines the light on your overall health. It is information that people really need to know and we'll have providers to help them understand what that information means to them. We have found that Saturdays are incredibly busy for families and decided to move this event to a Tuesday evening in order for families to stop by after work."

Danielle Klump, FNP, said the screening is extremely important. "As a provider, it will help us predict coronary heart disease," said Klump. "It is important for patients with diabetes, for patients with high blood pressure and for general good health overall. Patients with higher cholesterol have lots of disease processes that go on. If you know what your numbers are, then you can address them and get your numbers down and live longer and healthier."

"The Hemoglobin A1C (HA1C) is an indicator of how the body uses glucose over the previous 2 to 3 months," said Allison Sadler, Laboratory Manager. "HA1C along with glucose and the Lipid Profile provide a diabetic screen which will allow you and your provider to view your risk for diabetes. Monitoring of these values as provided in this MBH HealthCheck could allow for early detection and an improved lifestyle. This is a great opportunity at a very low cost to get control of your health!"

The hospital will offer FREE screenings at the event including Blood Pressure, Pulse, Oxygen Saturation, Pulmonary Function, Sleep Apnea, and Diabetic Counseling.
Attendees will have the opportunity to visit hospital booths which will be located on the first floor of the hospital. Individuals who meet with a provider to review their lab results will have their names in a drawing for an Amazon 2nd generation ECHO or a Samsung Galaxy Tablet. There will also be other door prizes, refreshments and giveaways.

"The HealthCheck event will provide information on hospital services and programs and it will be a great opportunity to get free screenings and important lab tests at an incredible savings," added Dan Eaves, CEO. Many families have high deductibles and co-pays and we hope that they will take advantage of all that this event offers."
