Marshall Browning Hospital to Offer Wound Care Clinic

Du Quoin, Illinois - April 17, 2017 - For individuals who have chronic wounds or lesions that will not heal, Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin is pleased to expand its services to help you. Marshall Browning will begin a new Wound Care Clinic beginning May 3, 2017. The clinic will be held every Wednesday morning in the Specialty Clinic department.

The Marshall Browning Hospital Wound Care Clinic will be dedicated to the treatment of chronic wounds. Knowing when to seek medical attention for a wound is key to the treatment. Several diseases lead to chronic wounds that are hard to heal, and without adequate treatment can lead to multiple problems, including amputation.

Chronic, non-healing wounds can result from a number of factors, including diabetes, poor circulation, trauma, vascular disease and immobility (which can lead to pressure ulcers, commonly known as bed sores). People with diabetes are at particular risk. The Wound Care Clinic will not only use therapies for healing, but will also address the underlying causes of the wound healing problem (for example, nutrition, lack of exercise, hygiene) to help eliminate recurrence.

Patients who have a sore or wound that has not significantly improved in one month or healed entirely in two months should ask their doctor about Marshall Browning Hospital's Wound Care Clinic. It is not necessary to have a physician referral to come to the Wound Care Clinic.

The clinic will be directed by Malcolm A. Schulz, M.D. Dr. Schulz is a general surgeon who has many years of experience in wound care. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport, Louisiana. He completed his residency in general surgery at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, West Virginia where he was the Chief Resident. He completed a Fellowship in Trauma/Critical Care at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.

"We are very excited to bring another much needed service to the patients in our community," said Dan Eaves, CEO. "Dr. Schulz has many years of experience and will provide the expertise and compassionate care that our community deserves."

Immediate appointments are available and most insurances are accepted. Appointments for the Wound Care Clinic may be made by calling Marshall Browning Hospital at 618-542-1045.
