Marshall Browning Hospital Welcomes New CEO


Du Quoin, Illinois - January 24, 2012 - Marshall Browning Hospital is pleased to welcome Edwin A. Gast as the new Chief Executive Officer of Marshall Browning Hospital.

As CEO, Gast will oversee the not-for-profit 25-bed critical access facility that includes a medical clinic, therapy center and 22-unit independent living community. The hospital offers numerous services including 11 specialty clinics and employs over 200 employees. The hospital is affiliated with Southern Illinois Healthcare and is fully accredited by The Joint Commission.

Mr. Gast will officially begin his position on Wednesday, February 15. He will be working alongside current CEO, William Huff, until his retirement on March 2.

Mr. Gast has a strong background in leading critical access hospitals. He was previously CEO of Iron County Hospital, a 15-bed critical access hospital in Pilot Knob, Missouri, as well as hospitals in Iowa and Colorado.

Mr. Gast's educational background includes undergraduate from the University of Cincinnati, graduate work in Hospital Administration from Xavier University in Ohio and over 30 years of healthcare leadership. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He and his wife, Karen, are the parents of three children.

Mr. Gast and his wife will be making Du Quoin their new home. A public welcome reception will be announced in February.
