Marshall Browning Rehab to Hold 13th Annual 5K Run/Walk

Du Quoin, Illinois - September 6, 2013

Put your best foot forward at a Run and a Walk to promote walking and exercise as a key role in the recovery of most injuries and illness. Marshall Browning Hospital's Rehab Center in Du Quoin will hold their 13th Annual 5K Run/Walk at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 19.

"We at Marshall Browning Rehab want to encourage the community to lead healthier lives through good nutrition and exercise. This family-friendly run and walk is a fun way to get active and enjoy the outdoors," said Heather Richelman, Director of Rehab.

Packet pickup and race day registration will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the labor pavilion and the race will begin at 9:00 a.m. The event is held each year in honor of National Physical Therapy Month. The rehab staff invites you to come and enjoy the scenic Du Quoin State Fairgrounds as you run and walk for fitness and fun. Participants for the event come each year from all across the area with seasoned and first-time runners and walkers participating.

Awards will be given to the overall male and female runners and to the top two finishers in each age division of the run and competitive walk. The age divisions for the run: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & over. Age divisions for the competitive walk: 18 and under, 19-29, 30-45, 46-59, 60-74 and 75 and over. All participants will receive a T-shirt, snacks and drinks with a chance to win door prizes.

Cost for the event is $12 for the 5K Run, $12 for the 5K Competitive Walk, and $8 for the 5K Fun Walk for participants who register before October 4th. After October 4th, the cost will be $15 for the 5K Run, $15 for the 5K Competitive Walk, and $10 for the Fun Walk. Participants may register on-line here by October 17 or call (618) 542-1099.

Services offered at Marshall Browning Hospital's Rehab Center include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Athletic Training, Hippotherapy, Aquatic Therapy, Lymphedema Therapy, Vestibular Therapy, Hand Therapy, and Pediatrics.

Marshall Browning Rehab is the only facility in southern Illinois to have certified instructors to offer the highly acclaimed Sportsmetrics™ Training Program, effective in reducing the risk of knee injuries in female athletes.

The department also offers a free Sports Injury Clinic on Saturday mornings for area athletes. The injury clinic is offered every Saturday (August 24 - October 26) from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. at Marshall Browning Hospital. Screenings are performed by Dr. J. T. Davis, Orthopedist from Orthopedic Institute of Southern Illinois, and Tim Davis, Athletic Trainer/PTA from Marshall Browning Rehab.

Clay Travis, David Dickinson, DPM, Mariah Charles, FNP, Danielle Klump, FNP, Kathy Laird, APN, Mandie Bagwell, NP, Ariele Loiacono, FNP, Elizabeth Harbison, FNP, Michael Staff, PA-C, Heather Rice, PA-C, and Heather Burns, RD/LDN, CDE. Emergency Room physician services are provided by Integritas Emergency Physician Services. Hospitalist services are provided by Integritas. Radiology services are provided under the auspices of Cape Radiology and pathology services are provided by SEMC Pathology. Specialty Clinics physicians holding clinics at Marshall Browning Hospital are independent contractors and are not employees of Marshall Browning Hospital. Anesthesia services are provided under the auspices of Southern Illinois Medical Services.
Independent physicians providing services at Marshall Browning Hospital bill for their services separately and the Hospital Financial Assistance application does not cover nor apply to fees charged. Independent physicians include but are not limited to emergency room physicians (Integritas Emergency Physician Services), radiologists (Cape Radiology), anesthesia (Southern Illinois Medical Services),and pathologists (SEMC). Marshall Browning Medical Clinic and Marshall Browning Family Health Center are hospital-based rural health clinics operated under Marshall Browning Hospital. Eligibility for financial need assistance as determined through the Patient Financial Assistance application will apply to services billed through the Marshall Browning Medical Clinic and Family Health Center.
