Marshall Browning Hospital to Offer Four-Year Healthcare Scholarship

Du Quoin, Illinois - December 3, 2008 - The Board of Directors of Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin are pleased to announce the establishment of a four-year scholarship assistance program to Du Quoin High School senior students.

The scholarship will award a $1,000 four-year scholarship each year to a DHS senior who expresses a desire to pursue a career in the healthcare field and will be enrolling full time in college immediately following high school graduation. The applicant will be required to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in their high school coursework. Award of the second, third, and fourth years will be contingent upon satisfactory progression of the healthcare program.

The scholarship will be directed through the District #300 Educational Foundation whereby students will be eligible for matching programs that are offered through some of the area junior colleges and universities.

The Board is very excited to provide a scholarship to students who are committed to providing quality care to patients and families we serve but may not have the resources necessary to obtain their education" said William Huff, Chief Executive Officer. "The need for healthcare workers is critical in today's health care system and this fund will assist DuQuoin students in meeting that need."

"The Hospital Board of Directors has made this a priority in the hospital budget. In essence, within four years, the hospital will be paying out $4,000 each year to local students who are committed to furthering their education and working toward a healthcare career. It is one of the many ways we are giving back to our community," added Huff.

"We appreciate the continued cooperation that exists between the hospital and school district. This scholarship program will definitely benefit our students and hopefully move other organizations in support of the District #300 Educational Foundation," said Du Quoin Community Unit District #300 Superintendent Dr. Gary Kelly.

Applications for the four-year scholarship will be available through the high school guidance office. The deadline for applications will be March 20, 2009. The scholarship will be awarded in conjunction with the District #300 Educational Foundation dinner in May.
