To meet the future health care needs of Perry County and the surrounding communities, Marshall Browning Hospital of Du Quoin approved plans for a $7.7 million expansion of the hospital. Following the presentation of a Master Facility Plan, prepared by Alberici Healthcare Constructors, the hospital Board of Directors agreed that in order to meet the future healthcare needs of the community, it was time to make a major investment in the healthcare services provided to its patients.

The expansion will include a 22,000 square foot addition which will include 25 private patient rooms, surgery, laboratory, pharmacy, and inpatient rehab expansion. With the construction of this area, it will effectively empty out the 2nd floor of the 1972 building. They are currently reviewing plans for renovation of this area to include administrative and support functions.

The project is a single story addition that will encompass the east parking lot and extend out past the helipad. Work will begin very shortly to reroute the entrance drive to the hospital and the creation of a new parking lot so that the asphalt can be laid before the plants close for the winter.

William Huff, CEO, said "The residents of Perry County are entitled to an outstanding, updated, easily accessible healthcare facility with expanded medical services. There is an increasing demand by patients to have private rooms at hospitals all over the country. The new patient rooms will improve the patient and family experience. The rooms will be spacious and provide increased privacy. We have known for many years that our surgical suite needed to be updated, especially in order to attract an additional surgeon. Our laboratory, pharmacy and inpatient rehab areas have outgrown their capacity and will now be located in close proximity to our medical/surgical beds."

Harold Rice, President of the Hospital Board, added, "As a board and as an organization as a whole, we are committed to ensuring that the healthcare in Perry County lives beyond the years any one of us serves as board members or administrators. Our community deserves it, our children, and their children. We should all wake up knowing there will be outstanding medical care in a facility that is up-to-date and meets our needs."

Marshall Browning Hospital is a not-for-profit healthcare institution and does not receive tax monies. The hospital is currently exploring financial options for financing the building which could be either through tax exempt bonds or USDA loans.

Huff added "We are committed to meeting the healthcare demands and expectations of all the people and organizations we serve. We are extremely excited about the future of Marshall Browning Hospital and the opportunity of continuing the high quality service we have always provided in a beautiful new state-of-the-art hospital."
