Amy Booker Recognized As Extraordinary Nurse at Marshall Browning Hospital

DU QUOIN, IL, October 8, 2026 – Amy Booker, BSN, RN of Marshall Browning Hospital, was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

The nomination submitted read, “I came into the hospital nervous about my foot surgery and Amy came and got me from the waiting room to head back and get ready. From the first interaction and onward I felt like I was having a girls day with my bestie. Amy went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and all my questions were answered. I was only there for roughly 5 hours but the entire time Amy had the best attitude, was reassuring me about the surgery, we had many stories and laughs. Overall, if I ever have surgery done at the hospital again I would want Amy right there!”

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

Bonnie Barnes, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation, said “When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night. Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the superhuman work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Marshall Browning Hospital are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”

Stephanie Hall, Chief Nursing Officer and Director of Clinical Services, added, “Amy embodies what it means to be an exceptional nurse. Her compassion, commitment, and heart for her patients are truly deserving of this recognition. We are proud to celebrate Amy and the difference she makes every day.”
