Community invited to ribbon cutting and open house for new MBH Rehabilitation Center
Du Quoin, IL – March 14, 2025 - Marshall Browning Hospital will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and public open house on Thursday, April 10 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to celebrate the opening of its newly expanded MBH Rehabilitation Center, located east of the hospital at 920 North Washington Street in Du Quoin. The ribbon cutting will be held at 3:00 p.m. followed by tours and refreshments.
CEO Dan Eaves said, “This is an exciting time for Marshall Browning Rehab. We’ve added nearly 8,000 square feet to accommodate the growth of our rehab services. The rehab center will treat all kinds of patients needing rehab. It’s all about helping people get back to living their lives to the fullest.”
The new facility features a central area for patient registration and waiting, a large gymnasium and a warm-water therapeutic pool with graduated depth. There are private dressing rooms with lockers, restrooms and showers, plus six private treatment rooms, a spacious gym for cardiac and pulmonary rehab, and the latest equipment. There's also a convenient drop-off entrance under a canopy with convenient patient parking.
MBH Rehabilitation offers 13 different types of services, including aquatic therapy, cardiac rehab, dry needling, LSVT BIG®, LSVT LOUD®, lymphedema therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, pulmonary rehab, speech therapy, sports medicine/athletic trainer, and vestibular therapy. Inpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapies are also provided to our Swing Bed patients.
Director of MBH Rehab Heather Richelman said, “The therapy staff and I are so excited to bring our new, state-of-the-art therapy center to Du Quoin and the surrounding communities. Working at MBH for the last 20 years, I've seen a lot of growth in the services we are able to provide. In that time, we have gone from a staff of 6 full-time physical therapy employees, contract OT staff, and a part-time speech therapist to a full-time staff of 13 therapy employees plus numerous PRN and contract staff across the three disciplines bringing a continuum of care that, for some patients, begins in the hospital setting. We have expanded our services to include specialty therapies, such as dry needling, vestibular therapy, LSVT BIG® and LSVT LOUD® programs for those with Parkinson’s disease or other neurological conditions, aquatic therapy, and lymphedema therapy. The new expansion provides space for all of our therapies to continue to provide the great care that our patients have come to expect from Marshall Browning Rehab and to continue to expand our services to meet the needs of our community in the future."
Cardiopulmonary Director Lisa Smith said, “We are excited to move our Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab services to this beautiful new facility. It allows us to provide these therapies in a much larger area with easy access for our patients. This facility represents a significant advancement in our community’s healthcare services, providing essential support for patients recovering from cardiac events and those with pulmonary conditions. The design not only fosters an atmosphere of camaraderie among patients but also provides space to address the emotional effects of heart and lung disease as well as one-on-one education. It is vital for the health of our community to have these services locally.
Heather Richelman added, "I would like to thank the administration at MBH, the hospital board, and especially the staff here at MBH Rehab who provide excellent, individualized care to our patients for making this expansion possible."
Quadrant Design was the architect for the 7,700 sq. ft. expansion, which was built by Korte & Luitjohan Contractors, Inc. The project's financing included a $1 million USDA grant, and the hospital funded the remaining $1.6 million.
