Ambulatory Care Nurse - Surgery
JOB SUMMARY:
The Ambulatory Care Nurse is a Registered Nurse who works as a surgical ambulatory nurse and is cross trained into operating room nurse. This includes pre-operative, interoperative, postoperative, and infusion nursing. Marshall Browning Hospital services our community with various therapeutic infusions, and surgical procedures and endoscopies. Ambulatory Care Nurses in our organization are compassionate, professional caregivers with strong clinical skills and sharp attention to detail.
DUTIES:
Ambulatory Care Nurses are specialized registered nurses who administer intravenous medications, fluids, and blood products to patients in outpatient settings.
A. Vascular Access management: Expertly inserting, maintaining, and flushing peripheral IVs, PICC lines, and implanted ports.
B. Medication administration: safely administering therapeutic agents, including iron, antibiotics, biologics.
C. Patient Monitoring: Assessing patients before, during, and after treatments to identify potential complications or side effects.
D. Emergency response: Recognizing and responding to adverse reactions or anaphylaxis immediately.
E. Lab work: Collecting samples and reviewing lab results prior to treatment.
F. Electronic medical documentation, communication with physicians.
G. Preoperative and postoperative care for surgical patients.
H. Provide preoperative and postoperative patient education to patients and families.
I. Performing patient assessments.
J. Educating patients and their caregivers on proper IV-line maintenance, and patient education on medications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education: Must have associate’s degree in nursing or higher education. Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
B. Training and Experience: Two years of experience in related field preferred. Active RN License, BLS, ACLS, PALS are required or can be acquired within 1 year of hire.
C. Job Knowledge: Thorough understanding of ambulatory nursing, processes, and best practices.
D. Ability to effectively manage time and develop a daily schedule to meet patient demands.
E. Ability to document electronic health records.
F. Strong understanding of infection prevention protocols.
Additional Information Position Type : Pool/PRN/Per Diem Shift : Day Hourly Wage: $32.50 - $49.50 per/hour (Actual wage depends on experience.)
