 Provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical-surgical setting.  Provides initial point of supervision and point of accountability for medical-surgical department staff. Works with House Charge, Department Nurse Manager, and Chief Clinical Officer to enhance workflow, address process issues, and make adjustments based on patient and departmental needs. Communicates with physicians/House Charge/Nurse Manager/co-workers, as appropriate, about changes in the patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and presentation.  Can respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.  Additionally, can perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.
 
 QUALIFICATIONS
 
 A. Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.  Current registration with the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.
 
 B. Training and Experience:  Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS),
 
 C. Job Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of general nursing theory and practice,  including those disciplines related to nursing, such as biology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, sociology, basic pharmacology and pathophysiology  and their applications.  Must have basic knowledge to assess and care for neonatal pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.  Familiarity with organization and function of all departments; familiarity with standards, policies, and procedures of the Nursing Department, including the ability to access and follow policies and procedures.  Knowledge of literature and new developments in the nursing field.
