Nurse Informaticist - Clinical Informatics
JOB SUMMARY:
The Nurse Informaticist acts as a liaison between clinical operations and information technology, facilitating the effective use of clinical information systems across all areas of patient care within the Clinical Informatics Department. This role emphasizes optimizing clinical workflows, enhancing data quality, supporting end users, and ensuring clinical systems promote patient safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The Nurse Informaticist collaborates with clinical informatics specialists, multidisciplinary clinical teams, Information Technology, Quality, Patient Access, and Leadership. Additionally, this position participates in performance improvement initiatives and continuous quality improvement (CQI) efforts. Please note that this is not a remote position. The Nurse Informaticist reports to the Chief Nursing Officer/Director of Clinical Services.
JOB DUTIES:
A. Serves as a clinical and operational resource for the implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of electronic health records (EHR) and related clinical systems interfaced and standalone within the organization.
B. Serves as a clinical informatics resource by contributing nursing practice expertise to the use, optimization, and support of clinical information systems.
C. Collaborates with the Clinical Informatics team, nursing staff, interdisciplinary clinical teams, and Information Technology to support effective and safe clinical workflows.
D. Participates in the assessment and optimization of nursing workflows to support evidence-based practice, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
E. Contributes nursing standards of practice, scope of care, and clinical judgment to the design, configuration, and optimization of electronic health record (EHR) content.
F. Assist with end-user creation, password management, account access, basic navigation, and clinical access troubleshooting; Assist with system configuration tasks such as building user profiles, updating provider lists, updating access levels, or maintaining dictionaries.
G. Works collaboratively with Clinical Informatics and IT partners to ensure nursing documentation and patient care requirements are accurately represented in system build and workflow changes.
H. Assists with system testing, validation, and upgrades by evaluating nursing workflow efficiency, documentation accuracy, and patient safety impact.
I. Provides nursing-focused education, training, and at-the-elbow support to clinical staff related to EHR use, documentation standards, and workflow changes.
J. Reinforce best practices in nursing documentation, clinical decision support, and standardized workflows through education and ongoing support.
K. Leads troubleshooting in clinical system issues by identifying concerns affecting nursing practices and communicating clinical impact to informatics and IT partners.
L. Leads in the development and maintenance of nursing documentation tools, flowsheets, care plans, and nursing-related clinical decision support.
M. Supports nursing-sensitive quality measures, patient safety initiatives, and regulatory and accreditation requirements through accurate documentation and effective system use.
N. Assists with data interpretation and analysis from a nursing perspective to support quality improvement initiatives and evaluation of clinical outcomes.
O. Participates in interdisciplinary committees related to informatics, nursing practice, quality improvement, and patient safety.
P. Maintains confidentiality of patients’ protected health information and complies with HIPAA, nursing standards of practice, and organizational policies related to clinical information systems.
Q. Participates in hospital safety programs, performance improvement activities, and continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.
R. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changes in clinical practice, technology, and organizational priorities while supporting safe patient-centered nursing care.
S. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing required. An advanced degree in health informatics or a related field is preferred. Candidates must be licensed as a Professional Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Training and Experience: Minimum of five years’ patient-facing RN experience required. Five years of progressive experience in a clinical setting, clinical informatics, healthcare IT, or a related healthcare operations role, with a proven history of leading clinical informatics initiatives, including system design, implementation, optimization, and support, is helpful. Experience with Oracle Community Works (Cerner) is preferred.
Additional Information Position Type : Full Time Shift : Day Salary: $70,000.00 to $108,000.00 per year (Actual salary depends on experience.)
