Clinical Informatics Specialist - Clinical Informatics
JOB SUMMARY:
The Clinical Informatics Specialist serves as a bridge between clinical operations and information technology, supporting the effective use of clinical information systems across all patient care areas within the Clinical Informatics Department. This role focuses on optimizing clinical workflows, improving data quality, supporting end users, and ensuring clinical systems enhance patient safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The Clinical Informatics Specialist collaborates with multidisciplinary clinical teams, Information Technology, Quality, Patient Access, and Leadership, and participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives. THIS IS NOT A REMOTE POSITION. The Clinical Informatics Specialist reports to the Chief Nursing Officer/Director of Clinical Services.
JOB DUTIES:
A. Serves as a clinical and operational resource for the implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of electronic health records (EHR) and related clinical systems interfaced and standalone within the organization.
B. Collaborates with multidisciplinary clinical teams to assess workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, safety, and standardization.
C. Translates clinical and operational needs into system build, configuration, and workflow enhancements in collaboration with Information Technology.
D. Supports system testing, validation, upgrades, and new implementations to ensure clinical functionality meets patient care and regulatory requirements.
E. Assist with end-user creation, password management, account access, basic navigation, and routine troubleshooting.
F. Document and triage issues to the Nurse Informaticist and/or IT department as appropriate.
G. Assist with system configuration tasks such as building user profiles, updating provider lists, updating access levels, or maintaining dictionaries.
H. Assist with new hire onboarding by setting up user accounts, scheduling training, and providing system orientation.
I. Provides training, education, and at-the-elbow support to clinical end users on system functionality, documentation practices, and workflow changes.
J. Troubleshoots clinical application issues, performs root-cause analysis, and coordinates resolution with vendor support and IT as appropriate.
K. Communicate with software vendors to ensure system performance and resolve issues.
L. Assists in the development and maintenance of clinical documentation templates, order sets, alerts, dashboards, and clinical decision support tools.
M. Supports data integrity, quality reporting, and regulatory requirements through accurate documentation and effective system use.
N. Participates in interdisciplinary committees related to clinical systems, quality improvement, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
O. Assists with data collection, analysis, and reporting to support clinical quality measures, operational performance, and organizational goals.
P. Maintains confidentiality of patients’ protected health information, user access, and organizational operational information in compliance with HIPAA and hospital policies.
Q. Participates in hospital safety programs, performance improvement activities, and continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.
R. Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in response to evolving clinical practices, technology changes, and organizational priorities.
S. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Allied Health, Clinical Science, Information Systems, or related healthcare fields required. Advanced degree preferred.
Training & Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare clinical or clinical support environment required. Prior experience working with electronic health records, clinical systems, or informatics-related projects preferred. Experience supporting multidisciplinary clinical workflows, system training, or optimization initiatives is highly desirable. Knowledge of healthcare terminology, clinical workflows, quality measures, and regulatory requirements is required. Experience with Oracle Community Works (Cerner) is preferred.
Additional Information Shift : Day Salary: $70,000.00 to $108,000.00 per year (Actual salary depends on experience.)
