Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS)
JOB SUMMARY

The clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) functions in a leadership role, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, as a clinical systems expert. The CIS is responsible for participating in the planning, development, training, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of assigned Clinical Information Systems across the system. The CIS will develop and implement training pertaining to the staff’s use of clinical systems. The CIS will participate as an active and integral member of the IT Council.

JOB DUTIES AND SKILLS

A. Participate in the design, development, build, evaluation, testing, and
implementation of applications, tools, processes, and structures of clinical information and documentation. Provides ongoing support of current clinical applications
B. Assists in developing, reviewing, and implementing policies and
procedures relative to clinical informatics
C. Acts as primary liaison between Clinical Staff, Physician Staff, and IT to
ensure that EMR implementations are optimized based on clinical workflow.
Develops plans and strategies for gaining staff and Physician acceptance in the use of EHR
D. Supports physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other clinicians as the
Resource for requests related to changes in the EMR. Maintain internal change control plan/policy related to relevant applications
E. Develops and Implement training pertinent to the staff’s use of clinical
applications.
F. Must be a skilled decision-maker who works proactively in a high-stress environment.
G. Participates in user groups and regional meetings as needed to build and maintain knowledge.
H. Maintains state-required licensure and continuing education. Also maintains required competencies in their clinical field.
I. Maintain competencies in the Informatics field through continuing education

QUALIFICATIONS
A. MSN Preferred, BSN may be considered
B. Minimum of 5 years of healthcare experience
C. Knowledge of Health Information Systems, Patient Safety, Clinical Performance Improvement, and Change Management
D. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel within the organization
